Domenico O. Napoleon, 99, Former Wappingers Falls Trustee

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Domenico O. Napoleon of Wappingers Falls died Wednesday, Dec. 16. He was 99.

Napoleon was born in Wappingers Falls on Aug. 29, 1916. He attended UCLA and the Army’s Officer Candidate School. He served overseas in World War II as an AAA artillery lieutenant and infantry unit commander. 

He married Charlotte Townsend at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls in January 1944. 

He was a former member of the American Legion, the American Infantry Association and a charter member of the National World War II Veterans Memorial.

He worked at the Texaco Research Center in Beacon for 36 years and retired in 1980. He was elected three times as trustee in Wappingers Falls. 

 His resolution opposing the closing of Castle Point veterans hospital was adopted by the local board and placed in the Congressional Record by Rep. Joseph Resnick in 1964. He chaired the committee that purchased the Wappinger Lake and was proud of his role in the renaissance of the village during the 1960s.

He is predeceased by his wife, Charlotte; his sisters, Margaret Napoleon and Gaetana Napoleon; his brother, Armand Napoleon; and his daughter, Gail Napoleon Murphy.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Napoleon Richter and husband Randy of Walkersville, Md.; his son-in-law, Joseph Murphy of Woodbine, Md.; seven grandchildren, Chris Richter, Jennifer Doyle, Dan Murphy, Sean Murphy, Katie Phelps, Brian Greco, and Nancy Perry; 12 great-grandchildren, Charlotte Richter, Caroline Doyle, Margaret Doyle, Devan Murphy, Tyler Murphy, Daylon Murphy, Lyndsey Phelps, Rachel Phelps, Stephen Phelps, Audrey Greco, Avery Greco, and Jackson Perry; and his pets, Mia, Henry, Shabadoo and Gabby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church on Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
